User guide
Kai Reward Play adds a game to your store that shoppers unlock at a cart amount you choose. Each win is a single-use discount code. This guide covers setup and every feature.
Get started
- Turn on the app embed: Home › Open theme editor, switch on Kai Reward Play under App embeds, then save.
- Create a campaign: Campaigns › Create, pick a game, set the cart amount that unlocks it and its rewards.
- Launch it: check the summary in the Launch step and turn the campaign on.
- Try it on your store: add items until the cart reaches the amount, then play once like a shopper.
Don't see the game on your store?
- Check the app embed: Home says “Live on your store”. If not, open the theme editor › App embeds, switch on Kai Reward Play and save. Switching or publishing a theme turns it off.
- A campaign must be live today: active, inside its start and end dates, and under its monthly budget. When the shop budget is used up, every game pauses (Home tells you).
- The game opens once the cart reaches the first tier; before that the button shows how much is left. Also check the campaign's pages, devices and shoppers (Name and launch › Who sees the game).
- Each network plays at most 5 times a day per campaign (it stops code farming), and each shopper plays once. Testing again and again? Use another network, such as your phone on mobile data. Closing the button with × hides it for the rest of the visit.
- With Measurement on, a small share of visitors never sees the game, and your own browser can be one of them: turn it off while you test. A change can take up to 5 minutes to reach a tab that's already open.
Games
- Before checkout (scratch card, spin the wheel, mystery box): shoppers whose cart reaches the amount play once and win a single-use discount code.
- Welcome game: a game for new visitors that collects an email, running next to your cart campaign.
- After purchase (thank-you gift): buyers open a gift on the thank-you and order status pages; it's a code for their next order, and your store reminds them when they come back.
- When a game shows: pick pages, devices and shoppers (everyone, logged-in or guests) in the Name and launch step, and open it after a delay or when the shopper is about to leave.
Rewards
- Reward types: a percent off, a fixed amount off, free shipping or a free product.
- Tiers: add higher cart amounts with better rewards, so shoppers add one more item to reach them.
- Each reward has a chance; the editor shows the win chance per play and the average discount.
- Percent and fixed rewards can be limited to up to five collections, and you can exclude products or collections from every code.
Design
- Design › pick a template and change its colours, texts, logo and launcher for each game.
- Each campaign chooses its own template and style (Classic, Modern or Luxe) in its Display step.
- The preview shows every state (before the goal, button, game, win) on desktop and mobile while you edit.
- Cart reward bar: shows shoppers in the cart how close they are to the next reward.
- Thank-you gift › Store reminder sets how the reminder looks and which corner it uses.
Emails and integrations
- Turn on email collection in a campaign to ask for an email before or after the game. Shoppers tick a box to agree to marketing.
- You can rewrite the texts of each email step in the campaign.
- Players lists everyone who played, with their reward and consent; export the list as CSV.
- Integrations › connect Klaviyo or Mailchimp: shoppers who agreed to marketing go to your list within minutes, with what they won.
Results
- Analytics shows sales with a reward code, codes used and every step from shown to played to code used, by date range and campaign.
- Added revenue compares shoppers who saw the game with a small holdout group that never does. It's off by default: turn it on in a campaign's Name and launch step or in Settings › Measurement (10%) once your store has steady traffic.
- It appears once both groups have enough shoppers; until then Home shows how far measurement has come.
- A/B test: give a campaign a variant B with its own rewards or template; shoppers are split 50/50 and the campaign shows both results.
Codes and budget
- Every code works once and expires after the hours you set (Launch › Discount codes).
- Maximum discount caps any reward, whatever the tier says.
- A monthly reward budget (Settings) pauses the games when it's used up and restarts them next month.
Sidekick
- Turn on Sidekick in Integrations, then ask it in plain words to create, edit or pause a campaign, or how your games are doing.
- Sidekick opens the campaign filled in for you to review. Nothing changes until you save.
- Shoppers' full emails stay on the Players page; Sidekick doesn't show them.
Customer data and uninstalling
- When a shopper asks your store for their data, an export appears in Settings › Customer data requests. Download it and send it to them within 30 days.
- Uninstalling stops the games at once. Shopify asks us to delete your store's data 48 hours later, and we delete all of it.
